The Ace of Cakes has a difficult job that he makes look super easy. We (my mom/sous chef and I) spent about 12 hours yesterday working on my cake. It was hard work and sometimes frustrating but I, at least, had a lot of fun.

We finally got the cake covered in fondant. The blue part got on ok but we had some trouble with the green. Fondant is very very sticky. Who would guess that this is a chocolate cake covered in chocolate icing? ;P

We decided that we didn't have enough room, time or expertise to make the complete picture I wanted. So, I settled for the bear. I traced my sketch and we cut him out of fondant that we dyed brown.

We made the pink part of his mouth and the black embellishments out of fondant.

We made his teeth and horns out of gum paste and then added a fondant ear. I also carved in some of his body shape with a knife. The red in his eye was made with a Christmas sprinkle ;)

Closeup of the almost-finished bear. My brother gave me the idea to carve in the body detail.

We covered the green fondant with green icing and added green sugar crystals to make it look more like grass. We added some white clouds and some lavender streaks to the sky to make it look like he was in Nagrand. I painted the details on the bear with black gel food coloring. His hair was piped on with black-dyed icing and we piped chocolate icing around the outside edge to make it look finished. (This is not the picture I'm going to submit to Blizzard for the contest because it was far too dark in my mom's kitchen to get a good shot).
